Overturn, the 2026 edition of the Konteksty Festival of Ephemeral Art, considers the moments through which individual lives and collective histories are radically transformed. The exhibition brings together artistic practices that explore personal and political upheaval, migration, memory, identity and the relationship between intimate experience and larger historical structures.
Those Who Move Through Matter

Those Who Move Through Matter is an exhibition bringing together the practices of Mohsen Hazrati, Yupanqui Ramos and Gabriella Torres Ferrer. Curated by Dzekashu MacViban, the exhibition explores movement, materiality, transformation and the relationships between bodies, environments and other forms of matter.

Middle Ground: Festa Literária das Periferias Escrevivência: Literatures from Brazil and the Diasporas

Drawing upon escrevivência, where life and language merge inseparably, this edition of Middle Ground creates space for the messy, complicated truth of writing from lived experiences. Among other events and activations, the festival features two keynotes: Leda Maria Martins explores the connection between embodied knowledge and Afro-indigenous epistemologies, while Conceição Evaristo expands on how escrevivência confronts gaps in history and memory.

The programme involving readings, talks, conversations, and performances understands citizenship not only as a matter of passports, legal documents, or constitutional rights. But as something that is a democratic practice exercised through the daily maintenance of the common world. Plural Citizenships takes shape as a series of encounters, where writers, poets, translators, and thinkers come together to test the limits of belonging and to imagine new grammars for living together grounded in participation and mutual recognition.

Surreal Continuum: Revisiting, Remapping, Reimagining Surrealism was a two-day festival programme that re-examines the movement on its centenary, reimagining and remapping it by examining interrelated movements and histories typically regarded as disconnected or rendered completely unseen, as well as by celebrating its overlooked artists and proposing other reference points.
A Chorus of Tongues

The audio installation A Chorus of Tongues is an exploration into the relationship between oraltures and spatiality, highlighting the malleability and different forms that literary interventions assume. The installation allows audiences to immerse themselves in the work of different poets through a dial-in phone that leads to poems in various languages.
Kokende Liboso Eza Kokoma Te: On Contiguous Narratives and Poetic Cosmologies

The theorization of contemporary art and art history in Kinshasa is currently mainly formed by contemporary witnesses, oral traditions, discussions and collective activities. Given that there are few written documents, other forms of theorizing, historical referencing and artistic positioning are all the more important. In collaboration with writer and curator Dzekashu MacViban, Laboratoire Kontempo explores the theorization of art through new methods of knowledge production and different epistemic approaches. By bringing together visual art, poetry, proverbs and idioms, a dialogue is created between literary practices, performance and exhibition practices.
Middle Ground: Hargeysa International Book Fair Literatures from the Horn of Africa and the Indian Ocean

Middle Ground: Hargeysa International Book Fair brought the Hargeysa International Book Fair to Berlin for a programme exploring literatures and oraltures from the Horn of Africa and the Indian Ocean. The programme considered the sea as a space of memory, migration and cultural exchange, bringing poetry, mythology, language and archival practices into conversation with histories of trade, colonialism and movement across waters
